On May 14, 2015, Savvas Philip Savopoulos, Amy Claire Savopoulos, and Philip Savvas Savopoulos were found in their burning home. Daron Wint, a former employee of the Savopoulos family business, broke in and took the family hostage, demanding that they arrange a payment of ransom. After the money was delivered, Daron beat Savvas and Amy to death and set their house on fire. Their 10-year-old son Philip was stabbed multiple times and burned to death. Savvas and Amy’s two teenage daughters were away at school during the murders.
According to a prosecuting attorney, Savvas, Amy, and Philip “were tortured – mentally and physically – for almost 24 hours… it is clear that some of the victims heard, and saw, the deaths of their loved ones, realizing both that they were going to meet the same fate and that there was nothing they could do to save those that they cared about.”
