On February 23, 2011, Allen Lew Rose was killed on the job. As a tow truck driver, Allen was in the process of removing an illegally-parked car when the owner, Detra Farries, got into her vehicle and drove away. The tow cable attached to Detra’s car caught Allen’s legs and dragged him for over a mile. During Detra’s trial, the police officer who followed the trail of blood to find Allen’s body said, “I can still smell his flesh burning — his clothes burning.” Allen was still alive when his feet slipped out of his work boots and he slid to a stop in the street. Several bystanders came to his aid, but the 35-year-old father of two passed away en route to the hospital.
