An 18-year-old York City man fired into a group of motorcyclists on July 31 in a shooting that killed a Carbon County man, according to charging documents.
Dasean Damont Morris, of the 800 block of Wayne Avenue, was charged with homicide on Wednesday. He was denied bail and was taken to York County Prison. Dasean Damont Morris, of York, faces one count of criminal homicide in the death of Kyle Hagenbuch, police said.
Hagenbuch died of a gunshot wound to the head, according to the York County Coroner’s Office. Hagenbuch, who is from Lehighton, was shot outside in the area of 900 E. Clarke Ave. at 7:45 p.m. July 31. He died Aug. 2 at Wellspan York Hospital. His death was ruled a homicide.
According to his obituary, he was a graduate of Lehighton Area High School and worked many different jobs. He lived life to the fullest, always joking and happy and would always give you the shirt off of his back. Kyle was loved by many and impacted numerous lives in a positive way.
He loved riding his Harley with his motorcycle club and he was also in the Lehighton Softball League. Hagenbuch was also a father of two children. There is a GoFundMe for the family he left behind.
Morris was arrested Tuesday after a traffic stop on an unrelated matter. York City Police officer Christopher Martin arrested Morris due to “the defendant’s lack of cooperation and the smell of marijuana,” Martin wrote in the affidavit of probable cause.
The officer noticed the driver of a Toyota Corolla accelerating “at a high rate of speed” turning on a street. Martin found the vehicle and noticed Morris, who would only give his first name, walking westbound from the car. A loaded Glock 9 mm was in his pocket, police said. He was charged with carrying a firearm without a license and marijuana possession. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. Sept. 1 in Williams’ office.
In one video, a black sedan is seen from the east driving past the motorcyclists on East Clarke Avenue but later stops, police said. The driver, who witnesses identify as a Black male with dreads pulled up in a ponytail, exits the black Acura RL, and the motorcyclists are “seen flinching and ducking.”
Hagenbuch is struck and falls, police said. The sound of gunshots is heard in another video near the location.
The car then flees west on East Clarke Avenue. A person then shoots at the car leaving at least one bullet hole.
Police obtained a search warrant for the Acura found days later located In the 800 block of Wayne Avenue, about one block from the homicide scene with three bullet holes and a temporary registration. The vehicle is registered to a woman who said Morris is her son, police said. Receipts from McDonald’s and Sneaker Villa on South George Street in York were inside.
Police served a search warrant Aug. 5 at the house on Wayne Avenue listed on the registration. Inside they found a bag containing cut dreadlock hair, pants similar to ones a man exiting the vehicle Aug. 4 was wearing, a 30-round Glock magazine with 9 mm ammunition and mail for the defendant, police said.
His mother said he doesn’t live there but visits, police said. She showed a photo of Morris with dreadlocks on her phone. A search warrant for the phone showed it being parked to the rear of the registered address and text messages.
Morris is also seen on video at the McDonald’s and Sneaker Villa with dreadlocks, police said. Surveillance photo from a convenience store July 31 also shows Morris with the same hairstyle, police said.
