On April 5, 1986, Jeanne Ann Clery was attacked in her dorm room. She had awakened to find Josoph Henry, a fellow student but a stranger to Jeanne, burglarizing her room. Josoph slashed the 19-year-old with a beer bottle, raped her, sodomized her, and strangled her to death with a Slinky.
Josoph was an active member of the university’s Black Student Union; he had chosen to rob Jeanne’s room at random, in frustration at losing an election for president of the BSU. According to his opponent, Josoph “was always a gentleman.”
