On March 19, 2015, Aurora Wilkins was cut from her mother’s womb.
Aurora’s birth wasn’t due for several more weeks. “We had a nursery set up, had a baby shower. I had all the clothes she needed for a year. The only thing still to get was a crib.” Dynel Lane had listed a crib for sale online, but when Aurora’s mother came to buy it, Dynel assaulted her. “She grabbed me by the sweater. I was yelling ‘what are you doing?’ She pushed me into one of the nearby bedrooms. She wrestled me onto the bed, got on top of me and tried to start smothering me with a pillow. I remember thinking ‘I have to survive for Aurora’… When I came around, my whole abdomen was searing with pain. I looked down and saw the cut across my stomach. I felt my intestines fall out of my body as I tried to get up.” Baby Aurora died in the attack, so Dynel took her to the hospital, claiming to have suffered a miscarriage.
